Helping Amani Students Continue Their Education
Amani Orphans School has grown from six children into a school serving 198 students in 11 classes. Today, Amani begins with Pre-Primary 1 and Pre-Primary 2 and continues through Grades 1 through 9.
All of Amani’s orphaned students are able to attend school at no cost to their guardians.
As these students grow, the school is approaching an important milestone. Students who have grown up at Amani are now reaching the end of Grade 9. We do not want their education at Amani to stop there.
Neighbor Kwa Jirani Foundation is preparing for the next step: a new two-story school building that will allow Amani to begin adding the upper secondary grades.
The Next Step for Amani
The planned expansion will allow Amani to add:
Grade 10 in 2027 | Grade 11 in 2028 | Grade 12 in 2029
This means Amani’s students will be able to continue their secondary education in the same safe, supportive, Christian school community where they have already grown and learned.
This project is more than a construction project. It is a way to protect the progress these students have already made and give them a path to complete their secondary education.
What the New Building Will Include
The proposed two-story building is planned to include eight rooms:
- Four classrooms
- One science laboratory
- One computer room
- Two offices for teachers and administrators
The building design includes classroom space on both the ground floor and first floor, with verandah and balcony access, central stair access, and a durable roof design.
Architectural and structural plans have been prepared for the project. These include floor plans, elevations, foundation details, slab details, column details, beam layouts, and other construction planning documents.
Why This Building Matters
Education is one of the strongest ways to change the future of a child, a family, and a community. But education requires more than books and teachers. Children need safe, dependable, and appropriate classroom space.
This new building will help Amani provide:
- Additional classroom space
- A science laboratory
- A computer room
- Space for teachers and administrators
- A pathway for students to continue through Grade 12
- A stronger foundation for the school’s long-term future
The goal is not simply to build more rooms. The goal is to give Amani’s students the opportunity to continue learning without being forced to leave the school community that has supported them.
A Path Toward Long-Term Sustainability
For the first time in the school’s history, the additional space will also allow a limited number of tuition-paying students to enroll in the upper secondary grades.
These tuition-paying students will be accepted only in Grades 10 through 12. All available classroom space in the lower grades will continue to be reserved for orphaned students attending Amani at no cost.
The income from tuition-paying students will help Amani move toward greater long-term financial sustainability while preserving the school’s core mission of serving orphaned children.
Project Status
The architect is completing the final plans for the building. Once complete, the plans will be submitted to the county for approval and issuance of a building permit.
The project is currently in the planning and preparation stage. The next phase will require funding for materials, labor, site preparation, foundation work, structural work, roofing, windows, doors, finishes, and other construction needs.

Continuing the Work of Amani
Amani Orphans School continues to provide free Christian education to orphaned children. The school also provides daily meals, school supplies, student care, and a safe place to learn.
Amani currently employs Kenyan staff members, including teachers, cooks, administrators, security personnel, and other support staff whose daily work makes the school possible.
The impact of the school also reaches the surrounding community. Whenever possible, the Foundation purchases goods and services locally, including food, firewood, desks, furniture, uniforms, and other supplies. Local workers help construct buildings, sew uniforms, grow food, deliver supplies, and provide other services the school needs.
In this way, Amani’s work strengthens not only the students, but also families and small businesses in the surrounding community.
